These Nettur Petti also called as Amadapetti have a historical significance. It was used by women of Royal families to keep their jewels and precious gems. It has beautiful designs and carvings on it. Handcrafted to perfection. Made by skilled craftsman. A traditional and royal item. History: The Nettur Petti is an artifact of historical significance from Kerala as well as across India. It was a jewel box used by women in the royal and aristocratic families as well as in temples to store the ornaments of the idol, or by the royal family. This petti (box) is named after Nettur, the village in Kerala where the craft is believed to have originated. This jewel box is fully wooden-handcrafted and the casket usually made of rosewood is richly decorated with brass. The jewel box which used to store ornaments and jewels in olden times is used as a decorative piece now.

Nettoor petti or Amadapetti is made according to the principles of Thachushastram, Kerala’s ancient architectural science. Every box is made with the help of precise measurements using tools specific to this industry. Quality Rosewood, Anjili, Mahogany, and Jackfruit wood are sourced from around the state and polished to perfection for days before they come together in the box.

Making: The wood is put together with nails, that are made exclusively by hand for the Nettoor petti (Amadapetti). Over this comes the next intricate piece of detailing – bright brass elements that are also hand-crafted. The delicately designed brass work artistically covers the corners and also is used to make the elaborate lock of the box.
