Standing at 4 inches tall, these charming figurines depict a traditionally dressed Telugu couple, the man in a vibrant red kurta and black dhoti with a classic pagdi hat, and the woman in an elegant black saree with a blue blouse, adorned with gold jewellery and a bright bindi.
Every detail is hand-carved from soft Etikopaka wood and painted using natural, non-toxic vegetable dyes a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations of artisans in Etikopaka village, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. The movable arms add a playful, interactive charm that makes these dolls loved by collectors and children alike.
The Ancient Art of Etikopaka Craft
Etikopaka toys are one of India's most treasured GI-tagged (Geographical Indication) handicrafts, originating from the banks of the Pampa river in Andhra Pradesh. Unlike painted wooden toys from other regions, Etikopaka dolls are uniquely finished using natural lac (shellac) and vegetable dyes giving them their signature vivid, glossy colours that are completely safe and eco-friendly.
Each piece is individually hand-turned on a lathe and painted by master craftsmen, making every doll a one-of-a-kind work of folk art.
