Brass Multicolor Gemstone Mangalkari Ganesha Idol

Most stone inlay Ganesha idols apply the stones to selected decorative borders, a band here, a panel there. This piece takes a different approach entirely. The turquoise, coral red, and lapis blue stone inlay on this 9-inch Ganesha covers every major body surface, the ears in full lapis blue mosaic with coral and turquoise inlay patterns, the chest and upper body in a turquoise ground with red and blue cabochon flower motifs, the crossed legs in a vivid floral mosaic of turquoise petals with red and blue centres, and the waistband in alternating geometric colour panels

The gold of the brass face, the lotus-engraved trunk, the crown, and the arms emerges from this ground of vivid colour with the specific luminosity of gold against jewel tones. The result is a Ganesha that is simultaneously the most devotionally familiar and the most visually extraordinary version of Bappa in our collection.

About This Stone Inlay Ganesha

The scale and coverage of the stone inlay on this piece is what distinguish it from everything else in our Ganesha range. Rather than using stone as an accent material applied to selected border areas, the craftsman who made this idol has used it as the primary visual surface, covering the ears, the chest garment, and the crossed legs in complete mosaic compositions, each with its own distinct pattern vocabulary.

The Ears: Each of Ganesha's large, characteristic ears is covered in a deep lapis blue ground with individually set floral motifs, turquoise, red, and green cabochons arranged in the flower-and-leaf patterns of the finest Rajasthani stone mosaic tradition. The ears, which in most Ganesha compositions are simple smooth brass planes, here become the largest and most colour-saturated elements of the composition. The deep lapis blue, the most saturated tone in the three-stone palette, makes the ears the dominant colour statement of the upper composition, framing the gold face between two panels of intense blue.

The Chest and Upper Body Garment: A turquoise mosaic ground with red coral and lapis blue dome cabochons arranged in a repeating botanical pattern, stems and leaves suggested by the gold wire borders between the stone areas. The chest also carries the Trishul engraving on Ganesha's forehead, the three-pronged symbol of Shiva that identifies this Ganesha as the son of Mahadeva, in the gold of the unworked brass, creating a sacred inscription within the stone-covered surface.

The Crossed Legs: The most elaborate surface in the entire composition. The large dhoti surface covering Ganesha's crossed legs carries a full floral mosaic programme, large flower medallions with turquoise petals, red centres, and lapis leaf elements, arranged across the full surface in a repeating pattern. Between the flower medallions, smaller fill motifs of turquoise and red complete the coverage. The floral language of this surface directly references the textile patterns of Mughal-influenced Indian embroidery and brocade weaving, Ganesha's garment rendered as a visual equivalent of the most precious woven cloth.

The Waistband: The decorative band at Ganesha's waist carries the most precisely geometric stone inlay in the piece, alternating panels of coral red, lapis blue, and turquoise in a repeating rectangular pattern that creates a structured border between the upper body and the leg surfaces.
